Begert Limousin

The Begert Limousin Ranch ran by the Begert Family in the panhandle of Texas was wonderful operation to conclude my North American Travel Award experience. The Limousin cattle at Begert's are ran on native rangeland pastures. This was the only operation i visited that use walking sires as opposed to reprductive technolgies such as AI and ET. Begerts purchase sons of leading international Limousin sires and as a result their cow herd is quite exceptional.

Magness Land and Cattle

Magness Land and Cattle is quite a unique business based in Colorado. The Limousin and LimFlex business is largely LimFlex. The large LimFlex percenatge of the business appears to be for a few reasons the first and most apparent is that these cattle are more desirable for show cattle. The United States seedstock industry can absolutely be spilt into show cattle and commercially focused cattle i felt there was a big divide between these two types of business and cattle, however Magness combine the two into one business. The have a very strong show cattle side of the business and are leading genetic suppliers to Limousin show cattle breeders. However, they also have a large commercial side to there business selling some 800 Limousin and LimFlex bulls annually. I must thank John for taking time when busily preparing for National Western Stock Show to show me around the Magness operation and open my eyes to what is an impressive business.

Running Creek Ranch

Running Creek Ranch is a large commercially focused Limousin business. Running in excess of 1000 cows and producing Limousin bulls for the commercial producer. Running Creek produce moderate framed  powerful Limousin bulls. Bulls are sold private treaty at predominately 2 years of age. Running Creek also breed heavy horses and use heavy horses in the day to day running of the ranch. It was very refreshing to visit a large commercial focus business and I really enjoyed their attitude towards the greater beef industry. Many thanks to Joey, Family, and Staff for a fantastic time.

Counsil Family Limousin

The Counsil Family own and operate a Limousin and Limflex seedstock operation between Dallas and Houston in Texas. The main focus is on breeding show originated  cattle to be shown and offered for sale. They conduct two sales each year. They also produce Limousin and Limflex bulls which are sold private treaty throughout the year. It was a pleasure to visit with the Counsil family have have the opportunity to attend a 4H show with them. I must thank them for their wonderful southern hospitality and an opportunity to learn and understand their business,

Hawkeye Breeders

Hawkeye Breeders is an artificial breeding center, AI collection center, and housing facility. It is located at Adel, IA. Hawkeye is fulling accredited. They have great facilities and are the chosen collection center for numerous Seedstock producers as well as some AI companies.

Edwards Limousin

Edwards Limousin is based out of Missouri and is still in the development phase. They have however and continue to buy some of the best seedstock available to them to assist within the development stage. Again a more LimFlex focused enterprise. The donors and herdsires at Edwards was a bit of a highlight giving me the opportunity to see how genetics from multiple seedstock enterprises was coming together and working at Edwards.

Linhart Limousin

Linhart Limousin was an enterprise of substantial size, that is very much concerntrationg of soft easy doing soggy cattle, that have weight for age and big early growth. Cattle with very high fertility. Linhart is based in Iowa and was a very interesting operation. The enterprise is definitely moving away from high Limousin content cattle and more into LimFlex but the percentage of the cattle is not something they think abut they concentrate on breeding cattle that work for both themselves and their clients.
